DWP Urged to Cut PIP for 71,000 with Treatable Conditions

Reform UK Chair Criticizes 'Absurd' Claims

Reform UK chairman Lee Anderson MP described the figures as “absurd,” arguing that conditions such as constipation, acne, tennis elbow, and bedwetting should be managed by the health service rather than funded through the welfare system. According to recent data, bedwetting accounts for 46 claims, dizziness for over 2,000, and headaches for more than 1,600. Claims for constipation and piles exceed 150 and 100 respectively, while irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) claims have risen to 3,000.

Political Figures Weigh In on Welfare Reform

Wannabe Labour leadership candidate Andy Burnham suggested that Britain must not be “squeamish” about reducing the welfare bill to allocate more funds for defence. Labour cabinet minister Pat McFadden acknowledged a “design flaw” in the Universal Credit system, noting that it is too easy for individuals to be signed off without receiving adequate support or obligations. McFadden emphasized the need to shift the system's focus from entitlement to helping people change their lives, a goal he has pursued since taking office nine months ago.
