Octopus Energy has announced a new initiative to support pubs during the World Cup by offering free electricity for five hours on evenings when England and Scotland play. Starting June 11, the energy supplier will provide complimentary power between 7pm and midnight for all matches involving these teams.
Free Power Scheme Details
The scheme is designed to assist landlords during one of their busiest periods. Declan Perkins, owner of Clissold Park Tavern, The Lauriston, and The Regent pubs in London, expressed his appreciation: "The World Cup is one of our busiest times — so free electricity on the evenings England and Scotland are playing is a real help as we focus on giving our customers a brilliant match day experience."
Zoisa North-Bond, chief executive of Octopus Energy for Business, explained the motivation behind the initiative: "Pubs are where friends catch up and, during a big tournament, where entire rooms can celebrate and despair in unison. We wanted to give pubs something to celebrate." Venues with an Octopus Energy for Business tariff and a smart meter can sign up for the free power scheme until the tournament begins.
Customer Satisfaction Achievements
This announcement comes in a week where Octopus Energy once again outperformed the market. The company achieved standout customer satisfaction ratings in Ofgem and Citizens Advice’s latest nationwide survey. The report confirms that 9 in 10 Octopus customers are satisfied or very satisfied overall (90%), significantly beating the Great Britain average of 81%. Octopus was the only supplier in the country to score significantly higher than the market average for overall customer satisfaction.
Greg Jackson, Founder and CEO of Octopus Energy Group, commented: "Delivering exceptional service at scale is hard work, but our team proves it's possible month after month. By relentlessly investing in our technology and our people, we are making sure our customers continue to get the best-in-market care they deserve." On customer service, Octopus scored a record 86%, outpacing the national average of 77% and once again leading the market. Only 4% of Octopus customers reported being dissatisfied overall, and just 3% were dissatisfied with customer service – the lowest rates across all large energy companies.
