Prince Harry Confirms Birmingham Visit for Invictus Games Countdown
Prince Harry Confirms Birmingham Visit for Invictus Games

Prince Harry will definitely visit Birmingham next week as part of his UK trip, despite recent security concerns that had cast doubt on the visit. He will mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham, and also visit Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Security Discussions Ongoing

There remains a possibility that his wife Meghan Markle and children Archie and Lilibet could join him in Birmingham, but they will not accompany him for the start of his trip in London after it was reported that taxpayer-funded security was denied. According to the BBC, no final decision has been made regarding security for the Birmingham portion of the visit.

Itinerary: London First, Then Birmingham

Prince Harry's UK engagements run from July 7 to 11. He begins in London on Wednesday, July 8, visiting the Royal Hospital Chelsea for Invictus Games meetings. He then travels to Birmingham on Thursday, July 9.

On Thursday, he is expected to visit Birmingham Children's Hospital to support WellChild, the national charity for children and young people with complex medical needs. On Friday, July 10, he will attend the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) to mark the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, which will take place at the NEC and Sandwell Aquatics Centre from July 10–17, 2027.

There had been reports that the trip might include a private visit to Althorp in Northamptonshire to take his family to the grave of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Meghan and Children's Last UK Visit

Prince Harry has made several solo trips to the UK in recent years, but Meghan has not returned since 2022, when she joined him for engagements and extended their stay after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Archie and Lilibet have only been to the UK once, during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. That was Lilibet’s only visit to the UK since her birth in California.
