Aston Villa Eye Newcastle Forward Nick Woltemade in Potential Transfer
Aston Villa Linked with Newcastle's Nick Woltemade

Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade, according to a report from Spanish outlet AS. The 24-year-old German international is one of three Champions League clubs linked with the striker, alongside Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle's Asking Price and Contract

AS reports that Newcastle United are seeking €65 million for Woltemade, who has spent just one season at St James' Park after a club-record transfer from VfB Stuttgart in August 2025. The 6ft 6ins striker could be set for his third successive summer transfer, having joined Stuttgart from Bundesliga rivals Werder Bremen in May 2024. AS says it is 'widely assumed' he will move on again.

Woltemade signed a 'long-term' contract with Newcastle, which AS claims runs until 2031. The report suggests a loan move could be in the offing, with Atletico Madrid 'keeping a close eye' on the situation after having been interested in the German international during his time at Werder Bremen. Villa could 'potentially meet' Newcastle's asking price, according to AS.

Woltemade's Performance at Newcastle

Woltemade started well at Newcastle, scoring the winner on his debut against Wolves last September, and added four more goals in his first 11 games under Eddie Howe. However, questions about his best position—either as a striker or a No. 10—began to emerge as the goals dried up. He added only five goals in his next 34 games for the Toon, one of which came in the 3-1 win against Villa in the FA Cup.

In the 2024/25 campaign, Woltemade scored 17 goals in 33 appearances for Stuttgart, convincing Newcastle to sign him. He is currently away with Germany at the World Cup.

Villa's Current Striker Options

As things stand, Villa have Ollie Watkins and Tammy Abraham as options at striker, with Emi Buendia and Morgan Rogers often playing behind the centre forward, albeit there is a maelstrom of speculation around the latter. The potential addition of Woltemade would provide competition and depth in attack.
