Courteney Cox, best known for her role as Monica Geller on Friends, has reportedly split from her long-term boyfriend, Snow Patrol musician Johnny McDaid, after more than a decade together. The couple, who began their relationship in 2014, had previously been engaged but called off the engagement in late 2015 before reconciling in March 2016. They never re-engaged.
Details of the Split
A source told The Mail on Sunday that the split was far from ugly. "Johnny speaks incredibly highly of Courteney. They had a very deep relationship and they remain extremely amicable," the source said. "They are great friends and care about each other very much. This was not an ugly split. They had simply reached a point where they were living different lives."
According to reports, McDaid is believed to be in the early stages of a new romance. The last time he was pictured with Cox, who has a 22-year-old daughter, Coco, from her marriage to David Arquette, was in September 2025 when they attended the US Open together.
Previous Engagement and Reconciliation
Cox, now 62, and McDaid, 49, got engaged six months after meeting in 2014. However, they called it off in late 2015. Speaking about the temporary split on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Cox said: "He's not my fiancé. We were engaged to be married, but now we're just together. We broke off our engagement, and he moved to England, then we got back together, and it's actually better than it was before." She added: "Everything's better. Not because he's in London — although I think the distance after that breakup, we were apart for six months, that really showed us a lot. It's just better."
Background and Meeting
Cox, also recognized for her portrayal of Gail Weathers in the Scream franchise, first encountered McDaid at a Los Angeles party, where mutual friend Ed Sheeran made the introductions. The couple had been together for 12 years before the split.
