Dudley Council planners have granted retrospective planning permission for a supermarket in Pensnett, allowing a change of use application for the premises on High Street. The store occupies part of a building that previously housed two hot food takeaways. Under the approved plans, one takeaway will remain operational while the other section becomes a 100-square-metre supermarket.
Conditions imposed by planners include restricted operating hours: the takeaway may only open between 11am and 11pm, while the supermarket can operate from 7am to 11pm.
Listed Building Conversion Plans
Planners have also received an application to convert a storage area in a Grade II listed building at 212-214 High Street in Dudley into two residential apartments. Listed building consent will be required for the conversion of the upper floors.
A statement supporting the application describes the proposals as “a sustainable, high quality, locally needed facility” that will provide “much needed ‘top class’ accommodation within the district area.”
High Street Apartment Block Progress
Dudley planners are being asked to approve a lawful development certificate for a block comprising a retail unit and 14 new apartments, also on High Street. The application was originally approved in 2019, subject to conditions that required certain works before construction could begin.
The developer argues that those conditions have been met, as a trench was dug for foundations within the three-year time limit, proving that work had commenced before the planning permission expired. A lawful development certificate would allow construction to proceed.
Brierley Hill Pub Conversion
An application has been submitted to amend permission for creating flats on the site of a derelict pub in Brierley Hill. The Plough on Church Street was previously granted permission in 2025 for conversion into three apartments, but STSK Consulting Ltd now seeks to extend that to four flats. A plan for four flats on the site was originally approved in 2014, before the pub was removed from the local list.
In a supporting statement, STSK Consulting Ltd said: “The external appearance of the building will remain unchanged from the approved 2025 scheme. No new windows, doors, cladding, or roof alterations are proposed.”
