O'Neills Solihull Proposes Eye-Catching Green Makeover for Town Centre Pub
O'Neills Solihull Green Makeover Proposed

O'Neills Irish bar in Solihull town centre has applied for planning permission to undergo a striking green-themed makeover, according to documents submitted to Solihull Council last week. The Poplar Road venue, a prominent building on a gateway to the town centre, proposes repainting the external beams on the front of the building to green and installing new signage bearing the bar's name and 'Arrowsmith's Digital Darts'.

Rear Elevation Plans Include Mural

The application also covers the rear of the building, where the green colour theme would continue. A new mural is proposed with the slogan: 'Guinness for darts, bullseye!' Photo mock-ups submitted by Morgan Sign and Design illustrate the proposed changes.

The application, classified as an advertisement consent, is currently under consultation. One of the first responses comes from Solihull Council's heritage officers, who acknowledged the building's architectural interest and its positive contribution to the conservation area.

Heritage Officers Offer Conditional Support

In their comments, the heritage officers stated: 'The public house is a building of architectural interest which occupies a prominent position on a gateway to the town centre. The building itself makes a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the conservation area.'

They noted that the visuals show a repainting of the timber, and while there is no objection, they advised that the applicant is welcome to contact the heritage team for advice on paint selection and methods to preserve the decorative bargeboards. They added: 'The western elevation as existing is cluttered and requires improvement. The general upgrading of this area is welcomed and the muted green and white palette is acceptable.'

Part of Ongoing Improvements

This application follows a previous submission last month by the pub chain for a timber pergola structure in the existing front external seating area, along with the removal of an existing rear structure. The proposed makeover is the latest in a series of upgrades aimed at enhancing the venue's appearance.

Members of the public can view the plans and submit comments by searching for application PL/2026/01184/ADV on Solihull Council's planning portal.
