Birmingham City supporters are braced for fixture switches following the release of the 2026/27 Championship schedule yesterday, with the club set for top TV billing once again.
Opening Day Live on Sky Sports
As they did last season, Blues will start the new campaign in front of the Sky Sports cameras when they travel to Sheffield United on Saturday, August 15 at 5:30pm. Manager Chris Davies will lead his side in a match that promises high visibility from the outset.
Key Early-Season Fixtures
Birmingham have a number of eye-catching fixtures in the opening weeks that could feasibly be selected for live coverage. The first Hollywood Derby of the new season is scheduled for the third weekend, with Wrexham hosting Blues at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday, August 29 at 3pm. However, all four recent meetings between the clubs have been moved for broadcast, suggesting a switch is likely.
Other notable home games include clashes against Southampton and Wolves, followed by meetings with Philippe Clement's fancied Norwich side, Derby County, and Middlesbrough before the first international break of the season.
TV Selection Timeline
Blues fans will know how many of their opening eight matches have been selected by Sky Sports by July 2. The broadcaster has also pledged that all TV selections for the period up to the FA Cup Third Round on the weekend of January 9, 2027, will be confirmed on or before July 31.
Previous Season's Coverage
Six of Blues' opening 11 matches last season – including the Carabao Cup first round victory over Sheffield United – were screened on Sky Sports, and the club could be a big draw for the broadcaster again. According to Birmingham City reporter Alex Dicken, the team's popularity and competitive performances make them a strong candidate for regular live coverage.
