Birmingham City are preparing a fresh attempt to sign Celtic winger Hyun-jun Yang when the transfer window reopens in January, according to fresh reports.
The Blues, managed by Chris Davies, have previously tried to secure the South Korean international and are now ready to renew their interest amid competition from rival clubs.
Birmingham's Renewed Interest in Yang
Sky Sports reports that Birmingham City, along with Norwich City, have renewed their 'interest' in Celtic's 23-year-old winger Hyun-jun Yang. The Championship club were close to a deal for the player in the summer, with a fee of £3 million reportedly agreed, but the transfer ultimately collapsed.
Yang's move to Celtic in 2023 has not gone as planned. Despite being under contract at Celtic Park until June 2028, he has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. This season, he has made 18 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Who is Hyun-jun Yang?
The attacker began his career in his native South Korea, rising through the academy at Gangwon before breaking into their first team. He played 71 times for Gangwon, scoring nine goals, before his high-profile move to Scotland.
Since joining Celtic, Yang has scored nine goals in 83 outings. However, with Celtic's current struggles under new boss Wilfried Nancy – the team has lost its last four consecutive matches – a January exit for the player is considered a strong possibility.
What Would Yang Bring to Birmingham?
For Birmingham City, currently sitting 13th in the Championship table and five points off the play-offs, Yang represents an opportunity to add pace and depth to their attacking options.
Manager Chris Davies already has wingers like Demarai Gray, Patrick Roberts, Keshi Anderson, and Lewis Koumas at his disposal, but the addition of Yang would provide a different profile and freshen up the squad for the second half of the season.
Birmingham's immediate focus is on their final fixture before Christmas, an away trip to face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this weekend. The Blades, now managed again by Chris Wilder, have seen an upturn in form after a slow start to the campaign.
