Birmingham City's Pendleton Set for Shrewsbury Move

Birmingham City defender Byron Pendleton is in advanced talks to complete a move to League Two side Shrewsbury Town, according to BirminghamLive. The 20-year-old right-back, an academy graduate and lifelong Blues fan, is poised for his first taste of EFL football after impressing on loan in the National League.

Loan Success and Recognition

Pendleton spent last season on loan with Yeovil Town and Brackley Town, where he earned the Players' Player of the Year award despite Brackley's relegation from the National League. His performances drew rave reviews, and the move to Shrewsbury would reunite him with manager Gavin Cowan, who previously signed him for Brackley.

Academy Graduate's Journey

Pendleton joined Birmingham City at pre-academy stage at age five and captained the under-21s in the 2024/25 season. He signed his first professional contract in October 2023 and extended it in early 2025. Despite being included in Chris Davies' first pre-season tour squad in 2024 and featuring in friendlies, he has yet to make a competitive first-team debut for Blues.

Under-21 Reshuffle

Blues' under-21 setup is undergoing a reshuffle after a disappointing first season in Premier League 2. Aurelien Guernier rejected a professional contract to join AC Milan last week. In response, Birmingham have appointed former Wolves supremo Scott Sellars as under-21s chief and ex-favourite Darren Carter to manage loan moves for top youngsters.
