Leeds Modernians Cricket Club is celebrating a fresh start for its junior teams following a kind gesture from a local business. The club has secured vital funding to upgrade its practice nets and provide brand-new training equipment for players aged nine to 18.
Community Support from BPI
BPI stepped in to support the volunteer-run hub after one of their team members shared how much the club means to the community. The improvements ensure that young people in North Leeds have the very best tools to sharpen their skills and enjoy the game. Running three adult teams alongside the thriving junior section, the club relies entirely on the hard work of local families and volunteers.
Andy Stewart, who works at BPI and volunteers at the club, helped make the connection to ensure the next generation of players is well looked after. Andy commented: "For a volunteer-run club like ours, support like this really does mean a lot. Cricket clubs are about much more than sport, they give young people confidence, friendships and somewhere to belong. These improvements will make a real difference to how our junior teams train and develop, and we're incredibly grateful for the support."
BPI's Commitment to Community Causes
The support from BPI, a company that helps businesses recycle equipment, is part of their effort to back the causes their employees care about most. The club hopes these new facilities will encourage even more local children to pick up a bat and join the team this year.
David Boulton, from BPI, said: "We know how important clubs like Leeds Modernians are to local communities. They rely on volunteers giving up their time to create opportunities for young people, and we're proud to support something that means so much to one of our colleagues. By backing Andy's involvement with the club, we hope to help more young players enjoy cricket and develop both on and off the pitch."
