Neville pointed to the sheer quality of the current front-runners as the primary reason, stating that Villa remain "well away from Arsenal and Man City" in the championship race. This comes despite Villa's phenomenal form, which has seen them lose just twice in the league since late September, collecting 39 points from a possible 45 during that dominant run.
Emery Hailed as the Ultimate Difference-Maker
The core of Neville's argument centres on the transformative impact of manager Unai Emery. The former England defender believes the Spanish coach is the key factor behind Villa's remarkable surge into the top four.
"I think he is a difference maker, and gets eight or ten points more than the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham," Neville asserted. He placed Emery on a pedestal, declaring him "the second-best manager in the league behind Pep Guardiola" and a figure operating on "a different level" compared to peers with similar squad resources.
Neville explained that Emery's genius lies in extracting maximum performance from a "solid" but not "sensational or ground-breaking" squad, forging them into a cohesive unit with a clear identity. "They have a style, they all know what they want to do... they can play without looking," he observed, highlighting the team's intuitive understanding on the pitch.

While ruling out a title challenge, Neville's prediction for Villa's season remains overwhelmingly positive. He is convinced that Emery's management and the team's tactical consistency will be enough to secure a coveted top-four finish.
"For me, Villa are going to finish in the top four because of the manager and the solidity of their team formation," he stated confidently. This follows Villa's immediate bounce-back victory over Nottingham Forest, which extended their cushion over fifth-placed Chelsea to a significant 11 points.
