Robert Snodgrass has praised John McGinn for maximising his unique profile to reach the top of the game. Last month, McGinn lifted European silverware with Aston Villa after playing a key role as captain, ending the club’s 30-year wait for a trophy.
Champions League Qualification
Just days before Villa’s 3-0 win over Freiburg, they beat Liverpool 4-2 at Villa Park to secure Champions League qualification. This means that next season, McGinn will play in the Champions League for the second time in three years, in what will be his ninth campaign in claret and blue.
World Cup Success
Now, he is playing on the biggest stage of them all – the World Cup – and even earned Scotland their win in the competition for 36 years, since beating Sweden in 1990. The 31-year-old joined the club in the summer of 2018, months after Villa failed to reach the Premier League under former manager Steve Bruce, who had Snodgrass on loan during the 2017/18 season.
“John's got so much balance to his game... and don't take this the wrong way, but also the best arse in football as well,” Snodgrass joked to WhoScored. “We used to always have a laugh with it because Alex McLeish used to say to him, 'Can you stop doing that arse thing?' So we called the group chat 'The Arse Thing'.
“It has actually turned into his finishing move, hasn't it? He just swivels people. He's got so much power and strength.”
