Aston Villa are poised to make a second major signing of the January transfer window, with a surprise deal agreed for a highly-rated teenage striker.
Villa Agree Fee for 'Next Drogba'
According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa have reached an agreement with French club FC Metz for the signing of 16-year-old Brian Madjo. The reported fee is €12 million (£10 million), with a medical already scheduled for the young forward.
Romano broke the news on social media platform X, stating: "EXCLUSIVE: Aston Villa agree deal to sign 16-year-old talent Brian Madjo from Metz, here we go! €12m deal agreed for 2009 born gem with surprise move orchestrated by #AVFC behind the scenes. Contract valid for 5 years. Medical booked."
Profile of a Prodigy
Born in Enfield, north London in January 2009, Madjo is the son of former Cameroonian footballer Guy Madjo. Despite his youth, he has already gained senior international experience, making three appearances for Luxembourg before recently switching to represent England at Under-17 level.
The 6ft 4in striker began his career in Luxembourg before moving to Metz in 2023. He made his Ligue 1 debut in August 2025 and has since made five top-flight appearances, showcasing his potential.
His physical profile and style of play have drawn significant attention. Spanish media and The Sun have dubbed him the 'next Didier Drogba', comparing his power and approach to the Chelsea legend. Luxembourg's technical director, Manuel Cardoni, has even suggested Madjo has a "more complete profile" than Romelu Lukaku, praising his ability in tight spaces and with both feet.
A Strategic Coup for Emery's Project
This move represents a significant coup for Unai Emery and Aston Villa's sporting project. The club, currently flying high in third place in the Premier League, is strengthening its squad for a sustained push for Champions League football.
The signing of Madjo follows the arrival of 19-year-old winger Alysson from Gremio, signalling a clear intent to build for the future while competing at the highest level. With previous reported interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea, securing Madjo's signature is a major statement of Villa's growing ambition under their current hierarchy.
If the medical is successfully completed, Brian Madjo will join a vibrant squad at Villa Park, with fans eagerly anticipating the development of a player tipped to become one of European football's next great strikers.
