Aston Villa are preparing a bold January transfer move to bring former fan favourite Tammy Abraham back to Villa Park, according to fresh reports. The surprise swoop is seen as a potential game-changer for Unai Emery's side as they mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

Currently sitting third in the Premier League table and just six points behind leaders Arsenal, Villa's impressive form has sparked genuine belief they can compete for the championship. To sustain this challenge, Emery is keen to bolster his attacking options this month.
The Telegraph reports that the club is 'eyeing' a move for Abraham, a player they have tracked in previous transfer windows. The 26-year-old striker enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Villa during the 2018/19 season, scoring 26 goals in 40 Championship appearances to fire the club back into the top flight via the play-offs.
Complex Deal for a Prolific Striker
Securing Abraham's signature, however, presents a significant logistical challenge. The England international is currently on a season-long loan with Turkish Süper Lig side Besiktas from Serie A's AS Roma.
His deal in Turkey includes an option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of £11.2 million. Furthermore, his substantial wages, reported to be around £115,000 per week, would represent a major investment for the Midlands club.
Despite these hurdles, Villa's interest is long-standing. The club reportedly agreed a deal with Roma for Abraham in the summer of 2023, only for the transfer to collapse after the striker suffered a serious ACL injury on the final day of the 2022/23 season.
A Return to a Former Home?
Abraham's connection with the Villa faithful remains strong. His goalscoring heroics during his loan spell cemented his status as a cult hero, and he has previously responded warmly to chants from Villa supporters during his time at Chelsea.
Since his injury, Abraham has rebuilt his career with loan spells at AC Milan and now Besiktas, where he has impressed with his goalscoring form in the first half of the current campaign.
