Chris Wilder Demands Sheffield United Reaction vs Birmingham City
Wilder's Warning to Birmingham City Ahead of Clash

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has issued a stern warning to Birmingham City, insisting his team will deliver a strong response following a dismal performance last time out.

Wilder's Demand for a Reaction

The Blades suffered a 2-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns, a result that left boss Chris Wilder furious. He promised his squad a demanding week of training in the aftermath. Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, a somewhat calmer Wilder expressed confidence in his players' attitude during the week's preparations.

"I haven’t got a crystal ball but I’d like to believe I will get the reaction that I usually get when we’ve had a disappointing performance or result," Wilder stated. He acknowledged the uncontrollable elements of a match but emphasised the importance of focusing on what the team can manage. "The stuff that we can control, let's try and control. The attitude this week has been spot on."

Jack Robinson's Emotional Return

Saturday's fixture at Bramall Lane will see a familiar face in the opposition ranks. Defender Jack Robinson will return for the first time since his summer transfer to Birmingham City. Robinson was a mainstay under Wilder during his five-and-a-half years in Sheffield and even captained the side in last season's heartbreaking play-off final defeat.

Wilder, who was not at the club when Robinson's departure was sanctioned, spoke warmly of the player. "I got on great with Robbo," he explained. "He's a character, to say the least. He wants to win. When I first came back he was a shining light in a disappointing situation."

Robinson's start at St. Andrew's has been turbulent, featuring two red cards in his first six appearances, including a pivotal sending-off in October's loss to Hull City. Despite this, he is expected to be in the squad for the emotional return to his former home.

The 'Huge Advantage' of Winning Mentality

Wilder was keen to highlight the intangible qualities Robinson brings, describing his determined character as a major asset for any club. "Some people like him, some have different opinions, but he gave everything for me and wanted to win, which is a huge advantage for your football club when you have players of that character and determination," Wilder said.

He pointed to Robinson's visceral reaction to results as the hallmark of a true competitor. "When we won he enjoyed it and when we lost he didn't enjoy it. That for me is the sign of someone who wants to achieve."

All eyes will now be on Bramall Lane this Saturday to see if Wilder's United can mount the demanded response, or if Robinson and Birmingham City can spoil the party.
