Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering a striking January transfer window swap deal that could provide a fresh start for two out-of-form players.
Strand Larsen in Forest's Sights
According to reports from The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest, alongside Crystal Palace, hold an interest in Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The 25-year-old Norwegian has endured a difficult campaign at Molineux, finding the net just once in the league since his permanent move was completed last year.
This is a stark contrast to his previous season, where he impressed with 14 goals in 38 games during his initial loan spell. Prior to joining Wolves in 2024, he scored 18 times in 74 appearances for Spanish side Celta Vigo.
McAtee's Forest Struggles Could Prompt Exit
On the other side of the potential deal, James McAtee's time at Nottingham Forest has not gone to plan. The £30 million signing from Manchester City in the summer has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground.
The 23-year-old midfielder, a product of City's academy who made 34 first-team appearances under Pep Guardiola, is now working under his third Forest manager, Sean Dyche, following the sackings of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou. The Daily Mail notes that clubs including Leeds United, Bournemouth, and Chelsea are monitoring his situation.
A Deal That Could Benefit All Parties
This has led to suggestions that Wolves, under new boss Rob Edwards, could propose a straight swap. Edwards, who replaced Vitor Pereira earlier this winter after leaving Middlesbrough, is keen to put his stamp on a squad battling relegation.
A move for McAtee, even on loan, would guarantee the young playmaker regular first-team football to rebuild his confidence. For Forest, acquiring Strand Larsen would address their need for attacking reinforcement, offering the striker a change of scenery to rediscover his goal-scoring touch.
While Wolves face a difficult battle to stay in the Premier League, a six-month stint for McAtee in the Midlands could serve as the perfect shop window for his talents, whether at Molineux or elsewhere next season.
