Aston Villa's Tommi O'Reilly Attracts EFL Interest Ahead of Summer Transfer Window
According to a recent report by Football Insider, Aston Villa midfielder Tommi O'Reilly is being closely monitored by several Championship and League One clubs as the summer transfer window approaches. The 22-year-old is expected to be a sought-after player when the transfer market opens, following an impressive loan spell at Crewe Alexandra in League Two this season.
O'Reilly's Career and Current Form
Tommi O'Reilly has spent his entire career at Aston Villa, progressing through the club's academy and representing various youth levels. His contract with Villa runs until June 2028, giving him two more years at the club. This season, on loan at Crewe Alexandra, he has made 39 appearances across all competitions, with 35 in the league, contributing six goals and 11 assists. Crewe are currently in the play-off positions, alongside Swindon Town, Notts County, and Salford City, as they aim for promotion to League One under manager Lee Bell.
To date, O'Reilly has played seven times for Aston Villa's first team. He has also had previous loan spells at Real Union, Shrewsbury Town, and MK Dons to aid his development. Last year, he was allowed to move to Cheshire-based Crewe Alexandra to gain more experience.
Aston Villa's Recent Performance and Upcoming Fixtures
Aston Villa, managed by Unai Emery, recently suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Wolves. They currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, behind Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United. The Midlands club is set to face Chelsea at home on Wednesday evening, looking to bounce back from their loss.
After the defeat at Molineux, Emery commented, "I'm thankful for our supporters, to be here with us in the derby. And always here is very difficult, every match we've played here. We've lost three times and drawn one. But even losing here in the last three years we've achieved our objective and, of course, we are frustrated. But it can happen." He added, "How we played in the first half was really fantastic, we didn't score but we created chances to score, enough chances to score, we dominated, we didn't concede. And the second half when they scored, the match changed completely. We tried but the rhythm was stopping always."
The club now faces a decision regarding O'Reilly's future this summer, as interest from lower-league clubs grows. His performances at Crewe have made him a standout player, potentially leading to a permanent move or another loan deal to continue his development.
