Birmingham City have officially sanctioned the permanent departure of goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to League One side Blackpool, confirming the ninth exit from the club during the January transfer window.
Permanent Move After Successful Loan Spell
The 52-cap Northern Ireland international has made his move to Blackpool permanent after spending the first half of the season on loan with the Tangerines. During his loan period, Peacock-Farrell made an impressive 30 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating his value to the Blackpool squad.
Birmingham City originally acquired the goalkeeper from Burnley during the summer of 2024, where he began the club's successful League One title-winning campaign as their first-choice goalkeeper.
Form Decline and Position Loss
Despite his initial prominence in the team, a series of unfortunate errors led manager Chris Davies to drop Peacock-Farrell following a 3-2 victory against Peterborough at home. This decision marked a significant turning point in the goalkeeper's Birmingham City career.
Ryan Allsop subsequently took over the goalkeeping duties and went on to achieve remarkable success, securing the League One Golden Glove award. Allsop's performances were so commanding that he even replaced Peacock-Farrell in the Vertu Trophy XI for both the semi-final and final matches.
Transfer Window Exodus Continues
Peacock-Farrell becomes the sixth player to depart Birmingham City on a permanent basis during this transfer window, following the exits of Dion Sanderson, Emil Hansson, Keshi Anderson, Lyndon Dykes, and Alfons Sampsted.
When including recalled loanees Eiran Cashin and Lewis Koumas, along with Marc Leonard who has been loaned to Hearts, the total number of January departures from Birmingham City now reaches nine players.
Strategic Decision and Swift Resolution
The decision for Peacock-Farrell to move on was made at the conclusion of last season, and the goalkeeper acted promptly to secure his future with Blackpool. This transfer represents a significant reshaping of Birmingham City's squad as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
The permanent nature of this transfer provides both clubs with clarity and stability, allowing Blackpool to build their defensive unit around a goalkeeper who has already demonstrated his capabilities during his loan period.
