Champion Bodybuilder Jason Lowe Dies Aged 38

The global fitness community is in mourning following the tragic passing of world champion bodybuilder Jason Lowe, who has died at the age of 38. Known professionally as 'Broku', the IFBB Pro athlete's death was confirmed by his wife, Ashley, who shared a devastatingly emotional tribute on social media.

A Heartbreaking Announcement from a Grieving Wife

Ashley Lowe confirmed the heartbreaking news by posting a series of intimate photographs capturing cherished moments from their life together. In her poignant message, she wrote: "Today will be the hardest day of my life. I don't know if words will ever be enough to hold what you meant to me, because they all feel so small in comparison."

She continued, expressing profound grief: "You made me a better version of myself, and you were going to be the absolute best dad. Saying that I'm devastated doesn't even begin to touch the depth of this loss." Ashley described writing her tribute while wearing his Olympia jacket in their backyard, "trying to feel close to you, trying to make sense of a world that already feels different without you in it."

Circumstances Surrounding the Tragic Loss

According to reports from retired American bodybuilder and former editor of Muscular Development Magazine, Dave Palumbo, the tragic incident occurred while Lowe was training a client. Speaking on the Rx Muscle YouTube channel, Palumbo stated: "It is with a heavy heart that I have to report that IFBB Pro Jason Lowe has passed. The information I've had is that he was training in his gym in his garage, training a client, when he dropped."

Palumbo emphasised caution regarding speculation about the cause of death, noting: "There obviously has not been an autopsy done, so I don't really want to report a cause of death. I've heard rumours about blood clots, but until I get confirmation from his family and until they find out what actually happened, I think it would be foolish to speculate. He obviously was in very good health from what I understand."

A Celebrated Career in Competitive Bodybuilding

Jason Lowe enjoyed a distinguished career in professional bodybuilding from 2015 to 2022, earning worldwide recognition for his colossal frame and impressive physique. His competitive achievements included:

  • Two appearances at the prestigious Mr Olympia competition
  • A 16th place finish in the Men's Classic Division during his debut
  • An 11th place finish in the 212 division the following year
  • Two appearances at the renowned Arnold Classic, securing seventh place in the Men's Classic Physique

The Man Behind the Moniker 'Broku'

Lowe's distinctive nickname 'Broku' combined 'Bro' with Goku, the iconic character from the Dragon Ball series, reflecting both his personality and his formidable presence in the fitness world. On Instagram, he had amassed over 104,000 followers who enjoyed regular glimpses into his rigorous training regime and personal life.

The Florida native's passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from across the sporting world. WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash paid heartfelt respects on social media, writing: "He was so kind, humble. I won't forget my friend."

In the wake of this tragedy, a family friend has established a GoFundMe page to raise funds to support Ashley and the Lowe family during this profoundly difficult time, as the bodybuilding community comes together to remember a true champion and icon.
