James Morrison Offers Support to Tammer Bany Amid Injury Struggles
West Bromwich Albion's James Morrison is actively mentoring young attacker Tammer Bany, helping him navigate the emotional and physical challenges of a prolonged injury absence. Bany, a 22-year-old Danish recruit, joined the club in a £3.3 million deal from Randers but has faced a disastrous start, making only five substitute appearances over 13 months.
Injury Woes and Limited Playtime
Bany has been sidelined since December after undergoing surgery for a thigh tear, capping a difficult debut year at The Hawthorns. His only minutes this season came in stoppage time during a 3-1 defeat at QPR on December 6. Despite declaring international allegiance to Jordan, who qualified for the upcoming World Cup, he has seen more game time for his national team than for Albion this term.
Morrison, a senior figure at the club, revealed that Bany is eager to return to the pitch and prove his worth. "Tammer's very keen," Morrison said. "He's had a difficult period, so I've had a couple of chats with him. I think he's a day-to-day one, see how he is in training and then we'll go from there."
Recovery and Future Prospects
Bany has recently returned to training but will not feature in Monday's clash at Blackburn. His availability for the match against Millwall next Friday remains uncertain. The injury issues began last summer when he pulled up during a friendly against Dynamo Kyiv in Austria, disrupting his pre-season preparations.
His signing was cited as a major recruitment failure under former sporting director Andrew Nestor, who left the club in January. Bany remains the second most expensive signing under Bilkul after striker Aune Heggebo. However, there is hope he could still play a role for Albion this season and potentially represent Jordan at the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Emotional Support and Mentorship
Morrison emphasized the importance of providing emotional support to Bany during his recovery. "He's come into a new club, he's young, so with all those aspects when you're injured you can be lonely," Morrison added. "I know that feeling. He's probably feeling a bit embarrassed that he's been injured for all this period, but he wants to help on the pitch. It's important that I touch base with him and he feels the love."
This mentorship highlights the club's commitment to nurturing young talent through challenging times, as Bany aims to overcome his setbacks and contribute to West Bromwich Albion's campaign.
