Jhon Solis Opens Up About Birmingham City Future and Managerial Role

Birmingham City midfielder Jhon Solis has publicly addressed his potential future at the club beyond the current season, while also shedding light on his playing role under manager Chris Davies. The 21-year-old Colombian arrived on loan from Spanish side Girona during the January transfer window, with Blues holding a concrete option to buy him permanently.

Since his arrival, Solis has made a notably positive impression with Birmingham City supporters, doubling his La Liga start tally in the Championship. His initial purpose was to provide the size and physicality needed to bolster Blues' push for a play-off finish, a prospect that seemed promising for several weeks before recent defeats to Middlesbrough, Millwall, and Charlton rendered it more remote.

Possibility of Permanent Stay at St Andrew's

In a candid interview with ESPN, Solis confirmed there is a genuine possibility he could remain at Birmingham City permanently. "There's a possibility I'll stay; it's a loan with an option to buy," he stated. "So far, I've felt very good. The team was eight games unbeaten, then we lost three, but that's football."

He elaborated further on his future prospects, emphasizing his current focus and openness to opportunities. "There's the possibility of staying, but also the possibility of going back. I'm trying to take advantage of this momentum and my current form, which is good, and continue opening doors in the world of football. I'm willing to go wherever is best, but right now my focus is here, and I'm giving everything for Birmingham."

Embracing a New Role Under Chris Davies

Solis expressed clear enjoyment in playing for Birmingham City, particularly highlighting the tactical freedom granted by manager Chris Davies. He contrasted this with his experiences in Spain, noting a significant shift in his responsibilities on the pitch.

"It's a little different, with a bit more freedom," Solis explained. "In my early days at Atlético Nacional, I was a box-to-box midfielder, an 8-level midfielder who had the ability to get up and down the pitch, to repeat his efforts. They saw that quality here."

He detailed how this role allows him to contribute both defensively and offensively. "Defensively, I contribute that physical ability and winning duels, but also with the ball, I have that freedom to go forward and be direct. In the 70th or 80th minute, when the other team might be disjointed, you cover 40 meters with the ball. It's about being direct and trying to play, because we're one of the few teams that tries to play out from the back."

World Cup Ambitions Driving Performance

The midfielder revealed that his move to Birmingham City was strategically motivated by a desire to secure a spot in the upcoming World Cup squad. With the tournament drawing near, Solis is keenly aware of the competition but remains hopeful.

"Going to the World Cup is everyone's dream. With it so close, we all want to go, and there are elite players competing very well in my position," he admitted. "Being in Birmingham brings me a little closer because I'm playing and getting minutes, which is what's important. Until the players who are going to travel get on the plane, I don't know if I'll be there or not, but I won't stop pushing."

Solis concluded by reaffirming his commitment to making an impact. "When I come here, I come thinking about that, about contributing and doing my best to try and make the coach have some doubts. Now I'm waiting for March for the next training camp and the friendlies."

As Birmingham City fans and management weigh the decision on whether to activate the permanent option for Solis, his performances and dedication continue to be closely monitored in the final stretch of the season.
