Liverpool Swimmers Dominate Opening Weekend of Northwest Regional Championships

The first weekend of the Northwest Regional Championships kicked off in Wavertree, with City of Liverpool swimmers making a significant impact by topping the medal table. The team amassed an impressive total of 50 medals, including 23 golds, showcasing their strength and talent in the pool.

Outstanding Performances from City of Liverpool Athletes

Niko Dorsz of City of Liverpool was a standout performer, quickly securing seven gold medals and two silvers, many of which were achieved with personal best times. Club colleague Matilda Bristow continued her exceptional form, ending the weekend with six golds and a bronze, further solidifying her reputation as a top competitor.

Rose Nickson also shone brightly, posting seven personal bests that included five gold medals. Ethan Dwyer contributed with five personal bests, earning two golds and three silvers. Thomas Ball delivered a strong performance with six personal bests, resulting in a gold, two silvers, and a bronze.

Dylan Harte achieved five personal bests, collecting two silvers and two bronzes. Yosiyas Nicolardi set five personal bests, highlighted by a gold in the 100m Butterfly, silver in the 200m Freestyle, and bronze in the 100m Backstroke.

Notable Achievements Across the Team

Albion Dobrushi claimed a gold in the 400m Freestyle and a silver in the 200m Freestyle with a personal best. Harry Porthero earned two bronze medals, while Ralph Stockton, Myles Best, and Kianna Hui each secured silvers in their respective events.

Bronze medals were also awarded to Ella Lambert, Eric Bao, Lilly Walters, Martha Baxter, Poppy Read, and Tess Coles, contributing to the team's overall success. The City of Liverpool's dominance was clear as they led the medal standings after the first weekend.

Strong Showings from Other Local Clubs

Harper Aspinall led the Wirral Metro team with three golds and two silvers, receiving strong support from teammates Anna Fearon, Seren Johnson, Hope Birley-Brown, and Annabel Preece, who all performed well in the finals.

Halton's Anthony Wawrzyniak impressed with seven personal bests, including a silver in the 200m Breaststroke and bronzes in the 100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley. Petru-Sergiu Moldovan and Isabella Cranney also achieved personal bests in the 100m Breaststroke.

Ella Hewett of Prescot had a successful weekend, winning a gold in the 100m Butterfly as part of three personal bests. Southport saw Luke Kershaw, Kitty Dyson, and Ophelia Farnworth reach the finals, while Owen Cosgrove and Naya Phillips of Garston qualified for multiple finals, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.
