Local Swimmers Deliver Stellar Performances at Regional Championships
The weekend was abuzz with activity as preparations for the Regional Championships intensified, showcasing a strong local presence from clubs across the region. Swimmers from various teams demonstrated exceptional skill, securing numerous medals and setting impressive personal records.
Southport and Everton Lead the Charge
Southport’s Isabel Deakin set a high standard, earning seven gold medals and one silver, all while achieving seven personal bests. Ophelia Farnworth followed with four golds, a silver, and a bronze, also posting several personal bests. Aubrey Sephton returned home with three golds, three silvers, and a bronze after nine personal bests. Ella Jenkins-Breen, Luke Kershaw, Sophia Leddy, Shauna Thoburn, Freya Bamford, Henry Wilce, and Jamie Howe contributed to a remarkable medal haul for the team.
Everton’s campaign was spearheaded by William Stamper and James Grant, each securing two golds and a bronze. Sophie Lutas took gold in the 200m Backstroke, while her brother Sam Lutas earned silver in the 400m Individual Medley. Megan Templeton added two bronze medals to her collection, highlighting the team’s depth.
Formby and Prescot Showcase Talent
Formby’s Jessica Cooper continued to impress with two silvers and a bronze, and teammate Ciara Garlock claimed bronze in the 50m Freestyle. Prescot’s Isabelle Carter led her team with a gold and three silvers, while Ava Gibson set a personal best in the 200m Butterfly to win gold. Katie Bailey posted six personal bests, with her best performance earning gold in the 100m Butterfly. William Gill concluded the weekend with a silver and three bronzes, and Vlad Achim secured two silvers. Charlotte Steen, Georgia Watkins, Isabelle Parsons, Lillie Rylance, and Lydia Doolan also added to the medal count.
St Helens and Bebington Achieve Success
St Helens had a productive weekend, with Lilly Walters picking up three golds—including a personal best in the 400m Individual Medley—two silvers, and two bronzes. Izzy Wainwright showed great form with personal bests in the 50m, 100m, and 200m Breaststroke, winning a bronze in the 50m. Max Willetts claimed bronze in the 200m Breaststroke, and Jaxon Pullen secured bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.
Bebington was busy, traveling to Worksop on Saturday. Emily Niccolls earned four golds, a silver, and a bronze, while Sophia Hewlett continued her good form with two golds, two silvers, and a bronze. Matthew Keane took silver in the 50m Breaststroke, and Inga Connoways broke the three-minute mark in the 200m Freestyle. Eria Connoways, Evelyn Britton, Harry Sanderson, and Jessica Keane all posted several personal bests.
Menai Strait Meet and Hoylake Highlights
On Sunday, the Menai Strait Meet saw Grace Ebbrell stand out with three golds. She was supported by Logan Savage, who claimed two golds and three silvers, and Zion Skeete, who picked up five bronze medals. Samuel Scullion earned two golds and a silver, while Habiba Jones took gold and silver in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Andrei Randles, Arthur Hartley, Elliot Leedham, Evelyn Britton, Harry Keane, Harry Theobald, Oscar Mackay, and Ryder Maddocks also medaled.
Hoylake made a strong showing, with Amanda Henrys-Gil delivering a standout performance of five golds and two silvers. Matty Wentworth, with three golds, and Jasmine Rogan, with two golds, two silvers, and a bronze, were among many other successes.
Individual Achievements from Prescot and Garston
Prescot’s Jacob Lupton headed to Macclesfield, where he knocked five seconds off his previous best time in the 200m Backstroke. A duo from Garston also excelled: Forrest Hopley set personal bests in the 400m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke, and Edward Rushton posted his best-ever time in the 50m Breaststroke.
