Westmill parkrun Celebrates 400th Event

Organisers are anticipating a large turnout as Westmill parkrun prepares to celebrate its 400th event this Saturday, June 27. The weekly 5km run, which takes place at Three Lakes Campsite, Westmill Farm, Ware, Hertfordshire, started in July 2017 and has grown steadily ever since.

History and Core Team

The first Westmill parkrun was held in July 2017, thanks to a core team that included Adan Freeman, who was instrumental in setting up the event, along with Sue Millward and Carla Bell. Over the years, many run directors have come and gone, but Sue and Carla remain on the core team, supported by a vital group of volunteers without whom the run could not take place.

Participation Growth

In its first year, the average number of runners per week was 63. That figure has now risen to an overall average of 84 participants each week. The event has become a staple for the local community, attracting regulars and newcomers alike.

“We look forward to celebrating our 400th event on June 27 with our regular participants and volunteers, and hope to welcome lots of new visitors too,” said Carla Bell. “We will mark the event in traditional parkrun style, which means loads of cake! As always, we are very grateful to the Westmill owners for the use of their lovely site.”

Global Parkrun Movement

Parkrun is free to attend and take part in. Worldwide, there are more than 2,300 weekly events across 23 countries, making it a global phenomenon that promotes physical activity and community engagement.
