Liverpool Swimmers Dominate at Wavertree National Qualifying Meet

The Easter weekend was a spectacular showcase of swimming talent at the City of Liverpool National Qualifying Meet held at Wavertree. Over two action-packed days, athletes from across the region delivered remarkable performances, with numerous personal bests and a flood of medals highlighting the event's competitive spirit.

City of Liverpool Swimmers Lead the Charge

Hosts City of Liverpool were exceptionally prominent, with Niko Dorsz continuing his tremendous form by securing eight gold medals, including three personal bests. Matilda Bristow also shone brightly, claiming seven golds and three silvers, alongside several personal bests. Dylan Harte matched this success with seven golds, notably achieving a personal best in the 50m Butterfly.

Other standout performers from the City of Liverpool team included Nalika Mortimor, Marcus Cheung, Rose Nickson, Harry Porthero, and Ethan Dwyer, as well as Albion Dobrushi, Ffion Sinnott, and Anthony Welsh, all contributing to a plethora of medal wins.

Wirral Metro and Other Clubs Make Their Mark

Wirral Metro were well-represented, with Hope Birley-Brown leading the way by amassing an impressive nine gold medals. Key contributors from Wirral Metro included Seren Johnson, Ben Stephenson, and Lily Horton, while Abbie Roscoe secured three golds and Harper Aspinall earned two golds and a silver.

Southport swimmers also made a strong impact, led by Finlay Byrne with two golds, a silver, and a bronze, and Isabel Deakin with two golds. Sophie Leddy ended the weekend with three silvers, and Logan Byrne picked up two silvers and a bronze. Additional medalists from Southport included Isaac Ralston with two silvers, Callum Byrne, Molly Colling, and Ophelia Farnworth.

Garston, Liverpool Penguins, and Other Teams Celebrate Success

Garston swimmers stood out with Naya Phillips earning two golds and a silver, and Spencer May securing a silver and two golds. Owen Cosgrove performed well in the Breaststroke events, taking a gold, a silver, and a bronze, while Benjamin Roper won gold in the 50m Backstroke. Other notable achievements from Garston included Forrest Hopley with two silvers and a bronze, and Afia Langley, Jayden Smedley, and Oliver Read each claiming a bronze.

Liverpool Penguins had highlights with Jessica Jones winning a gold and a bronze, and Andrew Clavis taking gold in the 200m Butterfly. Luke Brussels added to the team's success with a silver in the 200m Butterfly and a bronze in the 100m Butterfly.

Prescot, Bebington, Halton, and Hoylake Add to the Medal Tally

Prescot's team was led by Jacob Lupton with two silvers and a bronze, while Chloe Stewart picked up a silver and a bronze, and William Gill earned two bronzes. Katie Bailey and Yi Kai Chen each ended the weekend with a bronze medal.

Bebington celebrated a personal best from Matthew Keane, who took gold in the 50m Breaststroke, and Grace Ebbrell secured two silvers, including a personal best in the 50m Butterfly.

Halton had a superb weekend, collecting 18 medals in total. Swimmers such as Freya Karaski, Bella-Mai Fishwick, Jacob Agate, Tsz Yui Chui, Isabella Cranney, and Taylor Fishwick combined to win three golds, eight silvers, and seven bronzes.

Hoylake also performed strongly, with Lydia Sachs claiming a gold and a silver. Amanda Henrys-Gil earned three bronzes, Emily Niccolls and Iris Raven each won two bronzes, and Perla Cummings secured a bronze in the 50m Breaststroke.
