Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has declared that teammate Morgan Rogers has the potential to 'go to the very top' following another impressive campaign at Villa Park.
Watkins praises Rogers' rapid rise
Speaking ahead of England's international friendly against Ghana, Watkins highlighted Rogers' remarkable progress over the past 18 months. 'I think Morgan can go to the very top,' Watkins said. 'You've seen what he can do in a short space of time, in 18 months. Now he's developed and started to perform at that top, top level which has got him all the recognition that he deserves.'
Watkins also commended Rogers' mentality: 'I think he's got his head on his shoulders, he's an intelligent guy who is hard working and very confident in his own ability. I think he can go to the very top.'
Rogers' standout season
Rogers enjoyed a stellar 2025/26 season, scoring 14 goals in all competitions for Aston Villa. His performances helped Unai Emery's side secure a fourth-place Premier League finish, guaranteeing Champions League qualification, and also win the Europa League. Watkins, meanwhile, overcame a slow start to net 21 goals across the Premier League and Europa League.
Rogers has developed into one of the Premier League's most exciting talents and become one of Villa's most valuable assets. His form has attracted significant interest, particularly from Arsenal, who have reportedly identified the midfielder as a key summer target. Villa are expected to demand a substantial fee for the 23-year-old.
England teammates
Both Watkins and Rogers were part of the England squad that faced Ghana, with the duo continuing to impress on the international stage. Watkins' comments underscore the strong bond and mutual respect within the Villa camp as they prepare for another season of European football.
