Birmingham Airport recorded 1,346,071 passengers in September 2025, a 2.7 per cent increase year-on-year, with Dublin, Palma de Mallorca, Dubai, Alicante and Amsterdam emerging as the five busiest routes by passenger volume.

The figures, released by the airport, show that as the school holidays ended, travel patterns shifted from family trips towards solo getaways, friend group weeks away and couple trips abroad.

For September 2025, the airport's top five routes by passenger volume were:

  • Palma de Mallorca
  • Dubai
  • Alicante
  • Amsterdam

Of these, Dublin, Palma and Alicante were still identified by Birmingham Airport in July 2026 as among its most popular holiday destinations. In May 2026, Dublin, Mallorca, Amsterdam and Alicante were again among BHX's most popular destinations.

Airport chief welcomes growth

Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport, said at the time: “September has been another great month at Birmingham Airport with additional growth reported year-on-year for passenger volume.”

The airport also confirmed new routes, with Jet2.com offering flights to ski slopes in the French, Austrian, Swiss and Italian Alps, as well as the Tyrolean Mountains.

Ski programme expansion for winter 2027/28

For Winter 2027/28, over 56,000 ski seats will be on sale, with weekend and weekday flights available.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “We enjoyed another successful ski season last winter, and with skiers and snowboarders already looking ahead to Winter 27/28, we have responded by launching our ski programme for next winter from Birmingham Airport.”

“With perfectly timed flights at the most popular times and a range of airports to fly into, we are certain next year’s ski programme will be our best yet,” he added.
