Birmingham Airport 'most stressful' claim sparks defence from locals
Birmingham Airport stress claim sparks local defence

Birmingham Airport has been named the most 'stressful' airport in the UK, according to a study by aerospace tooling supplier Heamar, but West Midlands residents are pushing back against the label. The research, which analysed Trustpilot reviews, found that passengers used terms like "chaotic," "stressful," and "disorganised" more frequently in connection with Birmingham than with any other airport in the country.

Low Trustpilot score and stress-related reviews

Birmingham Airport currently holds a Trustpilot score of just 1.3 out of 5, with nearly 9 per cent of all reviews containing words related to stress and confusion. This places it at the bottom of the rankings for passenger sentiment, according to the Heamar analysis.

In response to the findings, a spokesperson for Birmingham Airport argued that the research includes reviews from up to four years ago and does not accurately reflect the current passenger experience. The spokesperson emphasised that more recent operations have improved, though they did not provide specific data to support this claim.

Locals defend the airport on social media

Despite the negative ranking, many Birmingham and West Midlands residents have taken to social media to share their own positive experiences. On Facebook, one commenter wrote: "I just don't understand this. I've used it for decades and it is always very relaxed there." Another added: "That's because its a small international airport. You cant compare it to the likes of Heathrow."

A third commenter noted: "At least we can land and not have to travel far before getting home but some improvement will be welcome." Others were more emphatic, with one person stating: "Stop moaning, I'd rather fly from Birmingham Airport any time." Another added: "There's no such thing as a perfect airport. All airports have their own issues, and it depends on where you live."

Passengers report smooth experiences

Several travellers highlighted their recent hassle-free trips. One commenter said: "5th flight of the year from Birmingham last Thursday. No problems whatsoever on any of them... in fact... brilliant." Another added: "Don’t what the problem is never been delayed or had any issues! Always a stress free experience!"

The defence from locals suggests that while the Trustpilot score reflects historical complaints, many regular users of Birmingham Airport see it as a convenient and generally stress-free option, especially compared to larger hubs like Heathrow. The airport spokesperson's argument that the data is outdated aligns with these personal accounts, though the study's methodology remains based on cumulative reviews.
