EasyJet Cancels All Cyprus Flights Following RAF Base Security Incident

EasyJet has taken the precautionary measure of cancelling all flights to and from Cyprus today, March 2, 2026, due to security concerns following overnight events affecting the RAF base in Akrotiri. The airline has confirmed that flights are expected to resume normal operations from Monday, March 3.

Affected Routes and Flight Details

The cancellations impact multiple key routes connecting the UK with Cyprus. Specifically, EasyJet has axed two inbound and two outbound flights between Paphos and London Gatwick, along with the same number between Paphos and Manchester. Additionally, one inbound and one outbound flight between Larnaca and London Gatwick have been cancelled.

An EasyJet spokesperson stated, "Due to the events overnight affecting the RAF base in Akrotiri in Cyprus, as a precaution, three return flights between Paphos and Larnaca and the UK today will not be operating." The spokesperson further advised, "Flights from March 3 are currently operating as planned, but we would advise customers due to travel to and from Cyprus over the coming days to check our flight tracker for the latest information."

Customer Support and Alternative Arrangements

EasyJet is actively working to minimise disruption for affected passengers. The airline is offering several options, including rebooking on alternative flights, even with other airlines, or providing full refunds. For those requiring immediate assistance, hotel accommodation and meals are being arranged.

The safety of customers and crew remains the highest priority, with the airline closely monitoring the regional security situation to ensure all travel decisions are made with utmost caution.

Impact on Other Airlines and Industry Response

British Airways has also cancelled flights, including a Larnaca service today. A BA spokesperson commented, "We are closely monitoring the situation and have cancelled a number of our flights to the Middle East. Safety is always our top priority, and we're contacting our customers to advise them of their travel options."

Wizz Air is similarly vigilant, with a spokesperson noting they are "closely monitoring developments in Cyprus" and that "operational decisions will continue to be reviewed, and the flight schedule may be adjusted as the situation evolves."

Travel Advisory and Precautionary Measures

Julia Lo Bue-Said, CEO of Advantage Travel Partnership, provided context, explaining, "Flights to Cyprus are the most recent to be impacted with airline cancellations as FCDO advice that heightened tensions could impact travel in the region. However, it is important to note that this is likely a precaution as the incident in Cyprus was very localised and that the FCDO has not advised against travel to Cyprus, which remains 'Green' for visitors following sensible precautions."

Passengers are urged to stay informed by checking airline websites and flight trackers for real-time updates, as the situation may evolve rapidly. While disruptions are expected to be temporary, travellers should plan accordingly and consider flexible booking options where possible.
