Jet2 Issues Weather Warning for UK Tourists with Portugal Holidays Booked
Jet2 has issued a travel update for holidaymakers via its website, as it issued a Travel Information Alert. The airline, which operates flights from Birmingham Airport (BHX) and competes with carriers like Ryanair, Wizz Air, TUI, and easyJet, has warned UK tourists flying to Portugal after becoming aware of a significant problem.
Adverse Weather Conditions Impacting Madeira
Jet2 stated: "We are aware of adverse weather conditions currently affecting Madeira (Funchal). Our UK Based Operations Team are working hard to minimise any disruption to flights to and from Madeira (Funchal). To find out if your flight has been affected, please enter your flight number above for the most up-to-date information."
The Funchal harbour master's office has issued warnings of rough seas and strong winds for the archipelago, with conditions expected to persist. Additionally, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued yellow and orange weather warnings, indicating potentially hazardous conditions.
Flight Disruptions and Revised Schedules
For passengers currently delayed in Madeira and awaiting confirmation of new flight times back to the UK, Jet2 advises referring to communications sent via SMS and email for details on revised flight dates and times. Information regarding check-in opening times for new flights will also be included.
Jet2 emphasized: "Safety is our number one priority and we're sorry if you’re affected by any flight disruption during this period. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time."
ANA, the airport operator, has warned that weather forecasts indicate adverse conditions may affect operations, including departures and arrivals, in the coming days. They recommend that travellers contact their airlines before heading to the airport to avoid unnecessary inconvenience.
