Ryanair has issued an urgent warning to all passengers regarding a fundamental shift in its boarding procedures, set to take effect from Wednesday, November 12.
The airline is moving to a fully digital system, meaning it will no longer accept printed boarding passes from this date onwards. Travellers must now use the Ryanair app on their smartphone or tablet to access their boarding pass.
How to Access Your Digital Boarding Pass
In a communication sent to customers, Ryanair outlined the simple steps required to obtain the new digital pass. Passengers must first download the official Ryanair app. After signing into their myRyanair account and locating their booking, they can check in as they normally would. The digital boarding pass will then be available directly within the app.
The airline emphasised the simplicity of the new process, stating, "It's that simple." However, it also reiterated a crucial existing rule: passengers who fail to check in online before arriving at the airport will be charged an airport check-in fee.
What If You Have Technical Problems?
Ryanair has provided clear guidance for passengers concerned about potential issues with the new digital-only system.
If a smartphone or tablet is lost after online check-in is complete, passengers can obtain a replacement boarding pass free of charge at the airport. The same policy applies if a device runs out of battery before passing through airport security.
The airline has also considered travellers who do not own a smartphone or tablet. These passengers will still receive a free printed boarding pass at the airport, provided they have already checked in online before their arrival.
However, Ryanair noted that these passengers will miss out on real-time flight updates and enhanced customer service support during any disruptions.
All passengers will continue to receive email reminders to check in online 48 and 24 hours before their flight departs. The airline stressed that anyone who ignores these reminders and arrives at the airport without having checked in online will be liable for the check-in fee.
