Royal Mail has confirmed that 40 postcodes across the West Midlands and Shropshire are currently experiencing delivery delays, with some areas seeing no mail deliveries for up to two days. The disruption is attributed to staffing shortages and operational challenges at local delivery offices.
Affected postcodes and areas
The delays cover a wide geographical area, including parts of Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull, and Shropshire. Specific postcodes affected include B1 to B45 in Birmingham, CV1 to CV6 in Coventry, WV1 to WV14 in Wolverhampton, WS1 to WS10 in Walsall, DY1 to DY9 in Dudley, and SY1 to SY5 in Shrewsbury.
According to Royal Mail, the delays are caused by "local staffing issues" and "higher than usual volumes of mail." The company has apologised for the inconvenience and is working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.
Impact on residents and businesses
Residents in affected areas have reported not receiving mail for several days, including important documents such as bills, medical appointments, and parcels. Small businesses that rely on postal deliveries for orders and payments have also been impacted.
One resident in Birmingham, speaking to BirminghamWorld, said: "I haven't had any mail for three days. I'm waiting for a hospital appointment letter and a parcel. It's really frustrating." Another resident in Shrewsbury added: "We rely on the post for our small business. This delay is costing us money."
Royal Mail response and advice
Royal Mail has advised customers in affected postcodes to check their online tracking for parcels and to contact customer services if they are waiting for urgent items. The company has also reminded customers that they can redirect mail to an alternative address if needed.
In a statement, a Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We apologise to any customers who have experienced delays. We are doing everything we can to get mail moving again, including recruiting additional staff and rearranging delivery routes."
The company has not provided a specific timeline for when full service will resume, but it is monitoring the situation daily. Customers are encouraged to use Royal Mail's online service for updates on their specific postcode.
