Free guided walks festival returns to Amber Valley this September
Free guided walks festival returns to Amber Valley

A popular annual celebration of nature and heritage is returning to the Derbyshire countryside with dozens of guided routes for residents. The fresh programme offers people of all ages and abilities a chance to explore the local landscape completely free of charge.

Two weeks of free guided walks for all abilities

Organisers have prepared two weeks of varied routes across the region, ranging from short family-friendly strolls to challenging hikes. Local guides will lead every session to highlight regional history, native wildlife, and points of interest along the way. Participants can book onto as many sessions as they choose, with full accessibility and parking details available before setting off. Every single walk throughout the entire festival remains completely free for members of the public to enjoy.

The popular initiative is organised by green charity Groundwork Five Counties alongside the local borough council. Participants are encouraged to follow the countryside code by respecting local wildlife, parking considerately, and taking all litter home.

Specialist guides share local history and heritage

Specialist guides will share local history and heritage points as groups travel through the scenic Amber Valley countryside. Many of the planned routes also welcome four-legged companions, making it an ideal day out for dog owners.

Marion Farrell, organiser at Groundwork Five Counties, said: “We are excited to once again bring this free event to Amber Valley. Every year we welcome hundreds of people on our walks, some who live locally, and some who come from afar to experience the beauty of Derbyshire.”

She added: “We have a busy schedule again with 24 free walks over two weeks, and people can book onto as many as they want. On the website you can see all walk information such as date and time, location, topic, grading, accessibility, parking, public transport, and much more. Dogs are welcome on many walks, so feel free to bring your four-footed friend along!”
