Royal Mail has released a delivery update alerting 142 UK postcode areas to expect disruptions to their post. The postal service has made a list of the impacted regions across the West Midlands.
As of Thursday, 13 August, delays are affecting significant areas across the UK, including Wolverhampton, Brierley Hill, Rugby and Rugeley.
Royal Mail's Statement on Delays
Royal Mail stated: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors."
"In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."
The company added: "We're sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding."
Network Performance and Delivery Targets
During the past 24 hours, Royal Mail's air and road network functioned according to plan. But not all mail centres processed or dispatched as scheduled. Manchester Mail Centre reports that certain post sent from the BL, M, OL and SK postcode areas is intended for delivery to other regions of the UK.
Royal Mail targets delivery to addresses by 4.30pm each working day, covering Monday through Saturday. However, this doesn't extend to certain locations such as Scotland's Highlands and Islands, where "transport is limited."
Regarding Sunday and evening deliveries, Royal Mail stated: "We also make some scheduled parcel deliveries later, which can include deliveries in the evening. These parcel deliveries can include Sundays with some geographical exceptions." The postal service confirmed that it does not "usually deliver on bank public and local holidays."
