Australian Electric Vehicle Manufacturer BossCap Enters Administration
Brisbane-based automotive manufacturer BossCap has collapsed into receivership, a form of external administration, suspending all business operations. The electric vehicle company, which had been operating since 2012, was Australia's first all-electric vehicle upfitter and later expanded into engineering and manufacturing.
Operations Suspended Amid Receivership
A statement from the receivers, quoted by Yahoo Finance, confirmed the development: “We regret to advise that the BOSSCAP Group was placed into receivership on 17 March 2026. Accordingly, operations have been suspended whilst the Receivers undertake an assessment of the business. At this stage, BOSSCAP is unable to undertake warranty repair works.” Mark Holland and Anthony Connelly of McGrathNicol have been appointed as receivers and managers to oversee the process.
Collaboration with Tesla and Industry Impact
BossCap had announced in July last year its plans to adapt Tesla’s Model Y to make the electric vehicle compliant for use in the mining industry. This move was aimed at supporting the transition to net-zero emissions in the sector. BossCap Group CEO Edward Kocwa stated at the time: "With Labor reaffirming its commitment to net zero and a more aggressive Safeguard Mechanism, mining operators have a clear choice: evolve or fall behind. Our electric ute gives them a practical, compliant, and future-proof path forward."
The collapse highlights the challenges faced by electric vehicle manufacturers in a competitive market, despite growing demand for sustainable transport solutions. The receivership process will now determine the future of the company's assets and operations, with stakeholders awaiting further updates.
