Costa Coffee has secured planning permission to install two rapid electric vehicle charging stations at its branch on Stafford Road in Wolverhampton, marking a significant upgrade for eco-conscious motorists.
Planning Approval Granted
Wolverhampton City Council approved the application on June 29, allowing the coffee chain to install the charging points and ancillary equipment at number 909 Stafford Road. The move is set to benefit electric car owners who can charge their vehicles while enjoying refreshments.
The applicant, Alice Miller of InstaVolt, described as the UK's largest ultra-rapid EV charging network, submitted the proposal. InstaVolt has previously worked with brands including Starbucks, Greggs, Co-op, and KFC.
Easy-to-Use Technology
Each charging station features a tap-and-pay function or can be operated via the InstaVolt app, providing a seamless experience for users. The company's planning statement emphasizes its mission to make EV charging accessible and reliable.
Economic Urgency Highlighted
InstaVolt's planning document stresses a "real economic urgency" for such proposals, stating: "Demand is already outstripping supply because the roll out of EV infrastructure has been too slow according to the Government's EV Strategy." The statement warns that without adequate infrastructure post-2030, serious economic damage could occur, drawing parallels to traditional fuel shortages.
The conclusion requests permission to "contribute to improving air quality, supporting economic development, and decarbonising Wolverhampton City Council without further delay."
