Electric Cars with Longest Battery Range Named - Tesla Not Among Top Three
Consumer organization Which? has compiled a definitive list of electric vehicles (EVs) offering the longest battery ranges to assist prospective buyers in making informed decisions. The comprehensive analysis reveals surprising results, with industry giant Tesla failing to secure a position in the top three rankings.
Methodology and Top Performers
Which? evaluated each model based on versions equipped with the largest available battery option. The clear winner is the Volvo EX60 from Sweden, priced at £64,860, which achieves an impressive range of 503 miles in its P12 AWD trim configuration.
Securing second place is the BMW iX3 50 xDrive, costing £58,755 and featuring 20-inch aerodynamic wheels. The third position belongs to the Mercedes Benz EQS 450+ AMG Line Premium Saloon, with a substantial price tag of £112,620 and a range of 485 miles.
Global EV Market Growth
Bloomberg reports significant surges in electric car interest across Southeast Asia. Dealerships for brands like BYD and VinFast in the Philippines and Vietnam have experienced interest levels quadrupling, with hundreds of units sold weekly. One VinFast showroom has even expanded its staff to manage the increased demand, noting sales have doubled compared to the previous year.
Expert Commentary on EV Evolution
Shafiq Abidin from What Car? highlighted the remarkable progress in electric vehicle technology. "Electric cars have come a long way over the last few years, not only becoming more affordable and reliable, but offering range outputs that rival the most efficient petrol and diesel cars," he stated.
Abidin further emphasized the expanding diversity within the EV market. "The EV segment is no longer just limited to a select few brands; almost every manufacturer out there sells one, and most do so across multiple body styles, from city cars to executive saloons and large SUVs."
Record-Breaking Achievements
In 2025, a Polestar 3 set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by an electric SUV on a single charge, covering an extraordinary 581.3 miles over 23 hours. This milestone underscores the rapid advancements in battery efficiency and vehicle technology.
"With the efficiency and technology of EVs only getting better, we’ve now seen the first few 500-mile production cars enter the fray," added Abidin, pointing to the Volvo EX60's achievement as evidence of this trend.
