Bullring Launches 'Drive In. Drive Out.' Parking for Festive Shoppers
Bullring's New 'Drive In. Drive Out.' Parking System

Birmingham's iconic Bullring shopping centre has unveiled a major upgrade to its parking facilities, introducing a new automated system designed to streamline the experience for festive shoppers. The 'Drive In. Drive Out.' technology was launched on 5th December 2025, promising a more seamless visit during the busy Christmas period.

How the New Automated System Works

The new process fundamentally changes how customers pay for their stay. Upon entering any of the Bullring's three official car parks – Bullring Centre, Moor Street, and Edgbaston Street – a camera will scan the vehicle's registration plate. The same happens on exit, with the system automatically calculating the parking fee.

This innovation means shoppers will no longer need to take a paper ticket or queue at pay points to validate and pay before leaving. Payment is handled automatically, significantly reducing exit times. Shoppers are encouraged to register their details online in advance to ensure a smooth experience.

A Boost for Accessibility and Convenience

The Bullring stated the primary goal is to create a 'seamless' experience, allowing visitors to pay for parking much more easily and focus on their shopping. The centre boasts over 1000 parking spaces close to the retail hub, with facilities including EV charging points and valeting services.

Importantly, the main car park continues to provide step-free access into the Bullring, a crucial feature for visitors with mobility issues. The upgrade is seen as a significant step in improving customer service and managing the high volume of traffic expected during the festive season.

What This Means for Visitors

The timing of the launch is strategic, coinciding with the peak Christmas shopping rush. The elimination of physical tickets and payment queues is expected to reduce congestion at the car park exits, making the end of a shopping trip less stressful.

While the system automates payment, drivers must ensure their vehicle registration and payment details are correctly linked via the Bullring's online portal. This new automated parking system represents a modern shift for one of the UK's busiest retail destinations, aligning with broader trends towards cashless and frictionless customer experiences.
