Birmingham pub issues strict rules after World Cup brawl

The Beeches pub in Great Barr, Birmingham, has imposed strict new rules on customers following a violent brawl during an England World Cup match earlier this week. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, June 23, saw punches thrown and a man brandishing a machete while the pub was packed for the England versus Ghana game. Police recovered a knife at the scene, though no arrests were made.

New rules for match night

Ahead of Saturday's England match against Panama, the pub announced a series of measures on social media. Customers must wear wristbands at all times, a full search policy will be in operation on entry, and guests are required to treat staff with respect. The venue will close at 6:00pm and reopen at 7:00pm, with no under-18s permitted after 6:00pm. Bookings are mandatory, and a one-way system will be in place.

Security breach and police investigation

The Beeches stated that those responsible for the disorder bypassed security and gained unauthorized access to the ticketed event. West Midlands Police are reviewing footage and working with the venue to identify those involved. A spokesperson said: "We are reviewing footage from the disorder and working with the venue to investigate. Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and anyone who saw what happened can call 101 quoting log 5963 of June 23."
