Major delays are affecting the M6 in the Black Country following a multi-vehicle crash that resulted in a large oil spillage on the southbound carriageway.

Incident Details

The crash occurred between junction 10 for Walsall and junction 9 for Wednesbury. Lanes one and two were closed by traffic police to facilitate recovery and cleanup operations.

National Highways West Midlands reported on social media: "Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) remain closed on #M6 in #WestMidlands southbound between J10 #Walsall & J9 #Wednesbury following a collision which caused a large oil spillage. @WMPolice are working on scene. Current delays of 70 minutes and 6 miles of congestion."

Traffic data monitor Inrix confirmed: "Long delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work, multi-vehicle accident and oil spillage on M6 Southbound from J10 A454 Black Country Route (Wolverhampton / Walsall) to J9 A461 Wood Green Road (Wednesbury).
