Wolverhampton Metro: No trams after 8pm July 20-28

Evening tram services suspended for road repairs

Passengers on the West Midlands Metro in Wolverhampton are being warned that there will be no tram service between several stations after 8pm next week. Road surface repairs on Bilston Road will affect evening services from Monday, July 20 to Tuesday, July 28.

During this period, trams between Priestfield and Wolverhampton Station or St George’s will be halted while the work is carried out. The Metro operator has advised that trams will operate normally to all stops from the start of service until 8pm. After 8pm, trams will only run between Priestfield and Edgbaston Village via Millennium Point.

Alternative travel arrangements

To mitigate the disruption, Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on National Express bus service 79, which runs between Wolverhampton and West Bromwich. The last tram from Wolverhampton Station to Edgbaston Village will depart at 8pm, while the final tram from Wolverhampton St George’s to Edgbaston Village via Millennium Point will leave at 7.54pm.

A West Midlands Metro spokesperson said: "We are sorry for any inconvenience that these changes to service may cause and appreciate your patience while these essential works are taking place."

Additional weekend disruptions in July and August

Overhead line upgrades will also cause changes to Sunday services starting from July 19. On July 19 and August 2, there will be no services between West Bromwich Central and Millennium Point or Edgbaston Village from the start of service until 1pm. During those times, trams will only operate between Wolverhampton Station or St George’s and West Bromwich Central.

On August 9, trams will run between Wednesbury Parkway and Edgbaston Village via Millennium Point only, with no services between Wolverhampton Station or St George’s and Wednesbury Parkway until 1pm. On August 23, no services will operate between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Millennium Point or Edgbaston Village until 1pm, with trams running only between Wolverhampton Station or St George’s and Wednesbury Great Western Street.

Bus and rail ticket acceptance

Ticket acceptance will be available on several National Express bus services during these Sunday disruptions: service 74 between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centre on July 19, August 2, and August 23; all services between Colmore Row and Edgbaston Village on July 19, August 2, and August 23; and service 79 between Wednesbury and West Bromwich on August 9 and 23. Additionally, direct debit or pass holders can use West Midlands Railway train services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham, including Five Ways.
