Train services heading towards Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham are set to be significantly busier than usual as The Hundred cricket tournament gets underway. The warning comes from West Midlands Railway, which advises passengers to plan ahead for increased crowds on match days.
Impact on Rail Services
The Hundred, a professional cricket competition featuring men's and women's teams, will see matches played at Edgbaston from August 2 to August 27. West Midlands Railway anticipates that services to and from Birmingham New Street and University stations will experience higher passenger numbers, particularly before and after matches.
Passengers are urged to allow extra time for their journeys and to check live train times before travelling. The rail operator also recommends purchasing tickets in advance to avoid queues at stations.
Advice for Cricket Fans
West Midlands Railway has issued the following advice for fans attending matches at Edgbaston: consider travelling outside peak times if possible, use contactless payment for quicker entry, and be aware that car parking at the stadium is limited. The train is the recommended mode of transport due to the venue's proximity to both Birmingham New Street and University stations.
