In a statement, the airline said: “Following a review of our routes from Leeds Bradford Airport, we have made the decision to no longer operate flights from the airport after 5 January.” The carrier, which competes with Jet2, TUI, British Airways and Ryanair, said its focus is on “maintaining and developing routes which prove most popular with customers.”

EasyJet added that it values the relationship built with Leeds Bradford Airport and that it “always keep options for our network under review, with the aim of providing more choice and connectivity where we see demand.”

Passenger options and refunds

The airline said it has “contacted customers with bookings beyond this date,” offering options including free transfers to other flights or full refunds. No further details were provided on which alternative airports passengers might be directed to.

The announcement comes as EasyJet also revealed a new partnership with aviation technology provider i6 Group to deploy its eHandshake digital refuelling platform across the airline's network. The system is designed to modernise the way fuel is ordered, delivered and verified.

Technology partnership aims to cut fuel use

Adam Baker, Head of Fuel Performance at easyJet, said: “At easyJet we are continually looking for opportunities to improve our operations through technology and innovation.” He added that introducing eHandshake with i6 Group “will provide a more connected and efficient fuel management process, improving data quality, giving us greater visibility across fuel operations and enabling reduced fuel consumption.”

Baker said initiatives like this demonstrate “how innovation and collaboration across the industry can incrementally help reduce aviation’s environmental impact both in the air and on the ground.”

Alex Mattos, CEO and Co-founder of i6 Group, said: “We’re proud to partner with easyJet to enable a smoother, more connected refuelling process across its network.” He explained that by integrating eHandshake into the technology pilots already use, “fuel information can be shared and verified digitally between pilots, fuel providers and operational teams.”

Mattos said the system will “improve communication and data accuracy, reduce unnecessary fuel uplift, and help easyJet deliver greater operational efficiency while lowering costs and emissions.”
