Pedestrians and a local councillor were left in disbelief after Birmingham City Council contractors painted double yellow lines around a parked car in Quinton, creating a bizarre and incomplete road marking.
Strange Sight at Ridgacre Road and White Road Junction
The incident occurred at the junction of Ridgacre Road and White Road in Quinton on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Workers were carrying out painting as part of the Environment and Transport Neighbourhood Fund but encountered a parked Ford Focus that forced them to leave a car-sized gap in the new lines.
Councillor Sam Forsyth spotted the unusual scene on Wednesday, April 1, and immediately urged the contractors to return and complete the work. She expressed frustration, noting that residents have long dealt with inconsiderate and dangerous parking in the area.
Residents' Long-Standing Concerns Addressed
For years, residents living on White Road and Ridgacre Road in Quinton have faced issues with problematic parking outside their homes and at the junction. Councillor Forsyth, along with Councillor Rainbow, petitioned Birmingham City Council and campaigned for double yellow lines and parking restrictions to improve road safety.
"We finally got them, only for BCC to do this," Councillor Forsyth said, referring to the incomplete painting. "Please come back and finish the job!"
Council Response and Future Plans
A spokesperson from Birmingham City Council confirmed that the contractor attended the site to paint the double yellow lines but was hampered by parked cars. The lining could not be completed due to the obstruction, and the contractor aims to return next week to finish the job.
The spokesperson stated: "As part of the Environment and Transport Neighbourhood Fund, our contractor attended the junction at Ridgacre Road and White Road to paint double yellow lines. Unfortunately, the lining could not be completed due to parked cars. Our contractor aims to complete the lining next week."
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in urban parking management and council operations, with local officials pushing for timely resolutions to ensure community safety and compliance.
