Key Dates and Locations

From Monday, July 20, 2026, Alexander Lane in Shenfield will be closed for 40 days to allow Advanced Electricity Networks Limited to carry out electricity connection works. The diversion route will be via Oliver Road, Chelmsford Road, and Alexander Lane. On the same day, Kings Road and Primrose Hill in Brentwood will close for 19 days for electricity connection works by UK Power Distribution Ltd, with a diversion via Kings Road, High Street, Ingrave Road, Queens Road, and Coptfold Road.

From Monday, August 3, 2026, Alexander Lane and Oliver Road in Shenfield will close for 26 days for new electricity connections by Advanced Electricity Networks Limited. The diversion will be via Rayleigh Road, Hutton Road, and Chelmsford Road, with access only maintained into Alexander Lane and Oliver Road. Also on August 3, Fryerning Lane in Ingatestone will close for three days for bollard installation by Essex County Council, with a diversion via Pemberton Avenue, The Furlongs, and High Street. Little Highwood Way in Brentwood will close for one day on the same date for cover replacement by Thames Water Utilities; no alternative route is available.

Legal Framework and Duration

The orders are made under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Some orders came into effect on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and others on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Each order can remain in force for up to 18 months, although the works are scheduled for the durations listed above. Actual dates may vary subject to signage and permitting.

Affected Road Sections

Alexander Lane in Shenfield will be closed in phases between Oliver Road and towards Shenfield Gardens. Oliver Road will be closed for 20 metres from its junction with Alexander Lane. Kings Road in Brentwood will be closed for approximately 105 metres north west of Queens Road, and Primrose Hill for about 10 metres from Kings Road. Fryerning Lane in Ingatestone will be closed from High Street to Haslers Court (around 40 metres). Little Highwood Way in Brentwood will be closed from Henman Way to Cleves Avenue (about 35 metres).

Works Undertakers

Advanced Electricity Networks Limited is responsible for new and connection works in Shenfield. UK Power Distribution Ltd is handling new connection works on Kings Road and Primrose Hill. Thames Water Utilities is carrying out cover replacement on Little Highwood Way. Essex County Council is installing bollards on Fryerning Lane.

Traffic Management and Access

Signed diversions will be in place as listed. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses within closure areas where specified, particularly for Alexander Lane and Oliver Road. For Little Highwood Way, no alternative route is available during the one-day closure. The council advises that dates may vary and appropriate signs will show current restrictions.
