Major 15-Vehicle Pile-Up on M73 Motorway Leaves Five Hospitalised, Including Two Children
A significant road traffic incident involving 15 vehicles occurred on the M73 motorway near Gartcosh in North Lanarkshire, east of Glasgow. The collision took place shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday, leading to five people, including two children, being transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Emergency Services Response
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched three fire engines and a heavy rescue unit to the scene. Simultaneously, the Scottish Ambulance Service mobilised six ambulances and two special operations response teams (SORT) to provide urgent care and transport casualties.
Hospital Admissions and Casualty Details
Two casualties were taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, while another two were conveyed to the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. One individual was transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The condition of those admitted remains unknown at this time. Additionally, three patients were assessed and discharged at the scene.
Road Closures and Clearance Operations
The northbound carriageway was closed between Junction 2 (Baillieston Interchange) and Junction 2A (Mollinsburn Interchange) as emergency services managed the incident, which happened at Junction 2A (Gartcosh Interchange). Vehicles were cleared by approximately 3am on Monday, with police requesting a sweeper to address debris. The carriageway reopened shortly before 4am on Monday, according to Traffic Scotland.

Amey SW Trunk Roads reported the incident as a "15-vehicle RTC" and advised motorists to avoid the area. Police Scotland has been contacted for further comment on the circumstances surrounding the crash.
