Nearly 7,000 drivers have been caught speeding on Lee Bank Middleway and Belgrave Middleway in the first half of 2026, making it Birmingham’s worst hotspot for speeding fines, according to exclusive figures obtained by BirminghamLive from West Midlands Police.
6,939 Offences Recorded
The data shows 6,939 speeding offences were recorded along the stretch between January and June 2026. The majority—5,670—were caught heading towards Haden Circus Roundabout. Average speed cameras operate along this busy route south of the city centre, catching over 1,000 drivers every month on average.
Second Worst Hotspot
Birmingham’s other main speed camera hotspot is the A4540 New John Street West, where 6,679 speeding offences were recorded in the same period. Police and council chiefs are aiming to further clamp down on speeding across the city, having recently cut speed limits on most busy roads from 40mph to 30mph.
Warning to Drivers
The latest figures serve as a warning that average speed cameras are operating and will catch rule-breakers, who risk fines and penalty points. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We are committed to making Birmingham’s roads safer. These figures show that our enforcement measures are working, but there is still work to be done.”
