A Birmingham drink-driver who claimed he 'didn't feel drunk' has been banned from the roads for 12 months after being caught swerving on Hagley Road. Dylan Kooner, 27, of Christchurch Close, Birmingham, was spotted by police swerving between lanes in his BMW in the early hours of April 25. He blew 47mcg in custody - well above the legal limit of 35mcg.
The defendant told Birmingham Magistrates' Court: "I thought I wasn't that drunk. I didn't feel intoxicated at the time to tell myself that I wasn't capable of driving." Prosecutor Alisha Collins said police received intelligence about an intoxicated driver just before 5am. Officers followed the BMW until it stopped and arrested Kooner after he initially blew 59mcg at the roadside.
Kooner, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to drink driving at the earliest opportunity. He can reduce his ban by 12 weeks if he completes a drink drive course. The court ordered him to pay £253 in total, including a £120 fine, £48 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
