Essex County Council has published temporary traffic orders affecting roads in the Borough of Brentwood, centred on the Appetite on the Farm event at Kelvedon Hall, Kelvedon Hatch, while separate utility and highway schemes will also cause disruption across the borough. The statutory notice details closures, a clearway, one-way controls and a temporary 30mph limit scheduled from late August into mid-September.
Appetite on the Farm event restrictions
The main event restrictions apply on August 29 and August 30, 2026, between 8am and 11:59pm. Temporary closures will be in place on Kelvedon Hall Lane from the A128 Ongar Road southwest to Church Road, with access maintained only for residents and pre-approved vehicles via the A128 Ongar Road junction. Church Road will also be closed from Kelvedon Hall Lane to Church Close, again allowing access only for residents and pre-approved vehicles via the A128 Ongar Road junction. Beacon Hill, Kelvedon Hatch, will be closed from its junction with Kelvedon Hall Lane southeast for approximately 200 metres, with diversions via Howard Lodge Road, Dudbrook Road, Crown Road and Ongar Road, and vice versa.
A temporary clearway will be in force on Kelvedon Hall Lane from Church Road to A128 Ongar Road on both sides of the carriageway, prohibiting stopping at any time. The Brentwood consolidation order for parking and waiting will be temporarily amended for these lengths only while the clearway is in force. Temporary one-way controls will apply on Kelvedon Hall Lane from the A128 Ongar Road towards Church Road (southwest only) and on Church Road from Kelvedon Hall Lane towards Church Close (northeast/east only).
Temporary speed limit and access arrangements
A temporary 30mph speed limit will be introduced on the A128 Ongar Road, Kelvedon Hatch, from approximately 250 metres south of the Kelvedon Hall entrance, north for approximately 750 metres, reduced from the national speed limit. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all closure points, and access for residents and pre-approved vehicles will be maintained where stated. The order comes into effect on August 29, 2026, and may remain in force for up to 18 months or until the event is completed, whichever is earlier.
Other Brentwood roadworks and diversions
Several other roadworks are scheduled across the borough. Byron Road, Hutton, will be closed from its junction with Coleridge Walk for approximately 25 metres in a north-easterly direction, commencing September 16, 2026, for 2 days (permit BC411002WGKRC88L — Openreach). The diversion will run via Byron Road, Kingsley Road, Tennyson Road, Hanging Hill Lane, Hutton Drive and Quennell Way, and vice versa. Ingatestone Road, Blackmore, will be closed approximately 190 metres northeast of Wenlocks Lane for approximately 45 metres, commencing September 2, 2026, for 2 days (permit BC411001WH1DWT0N — Openreach). The diversion will run via Ingatestone Road, Chelmsford Road, Blackmore Road, Ivy Barn Lane, Writtle Road, Wantz Road, B1002, Thoby Lane, Swallows Cross Road, Mountnessing Road and Ingatestone Road.
The A128 strategic closures and clearway (No. 8 Order) will involve phased works within an 18-month window from August 26, 2026, with closures and temporary No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping on both sides when signed. Affected lengths include the A128 Brentwood Road, Herongate and Ingrave, from Running Waters to Halfway House Roundabout (approximately 4,335m), with strategic diversions signed via A127, A12, A1023 and A128, or via A127, A176, A129, A1023 and A128. The A128 Ongar Road, Kelvedon Hatch, from the Epping boundary to Blackmore Road (approximately 3,500m), will have strategic diversions via A128, A127, A1245, A130, A1114, A414 and A128, or via A128, A1023, A12, A414 and A128. Residents will receive letters or leaflets in advance, and roadside signs will confirm exact dates for each phase. Emergency access will be maintained.
Old Road, Navestock, will be closed approximately 425 metres southeast of Bounce Hill for approximately 410 metres in a south-westerly direction, commencing September 14, 2026, for 5 days (permit EC30002331401 — UK Power Networks). The diversion will run via Bounce Hill, Mill Lane, Murthering Lane, Tysea Hill and Horseman Side, with access only into Old Road. Chivers Road, Stondon Massey, will be closed approximately 345 metres northeast of School Road for approximately 115 metres, commencing September 2, 2026, for 2 days (permit BC411001WH1GLJ1P — Openreach). The diversion will run via Chivers Road, Ongar Road, Tipps Cross Lane, Hook End Lane, Hook End Road, Blackmore Road and School Road.
Crescent Road, Warley, will be closed approximately 65 metres southwest of Warley Hill for approximately 45 metres, commencing August 26, 2026, for 3 days (permit EC30019297806 — UK Power Networks). The diversion will run via Warley Hill, Kings Road, High Street, London Road, Kavanaghs Road and Crescent Road. Eastham Crescent, Brentwood, will be closed from Knights Way to The Broadwalk South (approximately 60 metres), commencing September 1, 2026, for 1 day (permit EP201EH2411885 — Essex County Council). The diversion will run via Knights Way, Vernon Crescent and Eastham Crescent. Hall Green Lane, Hutton and Hanging Hall Lane, will see a closure on Hall Green Lane from approximately 80 metres southeast of Kingsley Road for approximately 50 metres, scheduled from September 3, 2026, for 7 days (permit BC411001WH1GW75H — Openreach). The 7.5-tonne weight restriction on Hanging Hall Lane (Hall Green Lane to Park Avenue) is temporarily suspended for the duration of this closure. Diversions will run via Hall Green Lane, Kingsley Road, Byron Road and Shelley Road, or via Hall Green Lane, Hanging Hall Lane and Park Avenue.
